ADI offers its new ADPD188BI, an integrated optical module that integrates two LEDs, photodiode and AFE in a single package. The high-performance AFE provides high ambient light suppression and reduces power consumption, thereby extending battery life. Two LEDs help reduce false alarms that are usually caused by steam and dust. According to the National Fire Protection Association, in the United States, almost a quarter of deaths (23%) occur when smoke detectors are disabled or inoperable.
The device is designed to meet the new UL217 requirements and EN54 / 14604 specifications. Its integrated design uses two colors to separate particle sizes, which enhances the ability to detect and classify smoke types and exclude harmful sources. The ADI solution enables backscattering design, bringing the LED closer to the photodiode, reducing the size of the board and allowing the use of smaller smoke detectors, which are more architecturally suitable for residential and commercial use.
