Maxim Integrated MAX20079 36V step-down Converter is a small automotive grade synchronous step-down converter with integrated high side and low side switches. The device provides up to 3.5A current with input voltages ranging from +3V to +36V and static current of only 3.5μA when unloaded. MAX20079 supports ±2% accurate output voltage in the normal operating input range of +6V to +18V.

The converter has the shortest turn-on time of 65ns and can achieve a large input-output conversion ratio. Voltage quality can be monitored by observing the PGOOD signal. The MAX20079 is ideal for automotive and industrial applications because of its low pressure differential operation at 99% duty cycle. The IC provides standard parts with fixed output voltages of 3.3V and 5V.
In addition, the Maxim Integrated MAX20079 can be configured with an external resistive voltage divider for output voltages from 3V to 12V. The frequency is fixed internally at 2.1MHz to support small external components, reduce output ripple and ensure no AM interference. A 400kHz option is also available to provide minimum switching loss and maximum efficiency.
The MAX20079 automatically enters jump mode at light load and has 3.5μA ultra-low static current at no load. It provides pin-enabled spread spectrum modulation and is designed to minimize EMI radiation resulting from the modulation frequency. The MAX20079 is packaged in a small 4mm x 4mm 20 pin SW-TQFN package that requires very few external components. The intelligent packaging layout enables extremely low noise solutions with excellent EMI performance.
