Microchip has expanded its tiny AVR MCU family with two new devices that feature advanced analog capabilities and the largest memory version in the family. The ATtiny3217 and ATtiny3216 are designed for reliable operation in harsh environments and provide built-in safety features that enable designers to produce rugged and secure systems. AVR MCUs have long been used to build highly responsive sensor nodes because they are cost-effective and easy to implement. To improve the capabilities and responsiveness of sensor applications, including capacitive touch interfaces, these devices bring the advantages of two ADCs that allow the system to implement touch control simultaneously with other analog measurements. One ADC can be used with PTC for touch signal acquisition, while the other ADC can monitor other inputs, such as thermistors and pressure sensors, or both ADCs can be used to sample different types of sensors faster. Microchip's ATtiny1617 and ATtiny817 tinyAVR series MCUs are optimized to improve performance, power efficiency and ease of use in small packages. Atmel Studio 7 IDE and Atmel START code configurator support all series devices. For evaluation, the ATtiny3217 Xplained Pro evaluation kit is also available.
