The Maxim MAX31912 ultra-low-power converter / serializer is an industrial interface serializer that converts, regulates, and serializes 24V digital outputs from sensors and switches. These 5V CMOS compatible signals required by microcontrollers are used in industrial, process and building automation.
The device provides a front-end interface circuit for a programmable logic controller (PLC) digital input module. It has integrated current limit, low-pass filtering and channel serialization. Compared to traditional discrete resistor divider implementations, input current limiting can significantly reduce the power consumption of field voltage power supplies. An optional on-chip low-pass filter provides the flexibility to debounce and filter the sensor output based on the application.
Maxim also offers the MAX31912EVKIT evaluation board and provides the hardware and software graphical user interface (GUI) required to evaluate the MAX31912. The EV kit includes the installed MAX31912AUI + along with a digital isolator and USB-to-SPI interface. The USB to SPI dongle is a separate PCB that can be used to interact with the evaluation kit software. If the user provides an SPI interface, the dongle is optional and not necessary for the correct operation of the device.
