Microsemi has introduced the LX7730 telemetry controller integrated circuit, the first member of its new family of mixed-signal devices for the radiation-resistant space system manager (SSM). The LX7730 integrates the functions required in satellite telemetry systems and interfaces with radiation-resistant FPGAs. The controller supports parallel or dual SPI interfaces and provides cold standby. Other key features include a 64-channel multiplexer, break-before-make switch, and a precision adjustable current source. The new integrated circuit has a minimum 100kRad TID, 50kRad ELDR radiation tolerance, and single event immunity. The company said that the LX7730 is available in a 132-pin ceramic square flat package and is designed to be used in harsh environments and to operate in a temperature range of -55C to 125C. "Our goal is to leverage Microsemi's past 50 years of space traditions to provide our customers with innovative space system solutions that address specific application challenges," said Dorian Johnson, Microsemi's high-reliability IC marketing manager. "An ongoing challenge in the satellite market is reducing weight and board space and increasing reliability. The LX7730 provides architects and designers of space systems with the highest level of integration of today's telemetry applications to meet their growing needs and requirements Marco Caceres, senior analyst and director of space research at Teal Group Consulting in Virginia, added: "We expect to launch 1,500 new spacecraft with a mass of 50Kg or greater over the next 10 years.Over the past 10 years The number of spacecraft in this quality category has increased by 25%. These satellites have stringent requirements for weight reduction and space reduction, which is addressed by Microsemi's SSM solution. "
