MikroElektronika MIKROE-947 RTC click is a form factor of accessory board in mikroBus. This board has NXP PCF8583 series RTC of NXP. It is a low-power, fully binary coded decimal (BCD) clock/calendar. The communication with the circuit board is completed through the I2C interface. The RTC click panel uses a 3 V/230 mA lithium battery as the backup power supply to ensure that the timing work continues when the main power is turned off.
The board uses 3.3 V power by default. To operate at 5.0 V, simply solder the PWR SEL SMD jumper to the 5v position. MIKROE-947 RTC click is suitable for applications that require real-time clocks, calendars, and programmed alarms. The communication with the circuit board is completed through the standard I2C interface. RTC has a 24-hour or 12 hour format, a programmable alarm, timer and interrupt function.
PCF8583 is a clock and calendar chip based on 2048 bit static CMOS 1 RAM, organized into 256 words and 8 bits. The address and data are transmitted serially through a two-wire bi-directional I2C bus. The built-in word address register is automatically incremented after each data byte is written or read. The address pin A0 is used to program the hardware address, allowing two devices to connect to the bus without additional hardware. The first 8 bytes of built-in 32.768 kHz oscillator circuit and RAM are used for clock, calendar and counter functions. The next 8 bytes can be programmed as alarm registers or used as free RAM space. The remaining 240 bytes are free RAM locations.
