The KA3524 Regulated pulse Width modulator contains all control circuits needed to implement any polarity switch regulator, transformer coupled DC to DC converters, transformer free polarity converters and voltage multipliers, and other power control applications.
Internal Block Diagram
The device includes a 5V voltage regulator that provides voltage up to 50mA to external circuits, a control amplifier, an oscillator, a pulse-width modulator, a split-phase flip-flop, dual AC output switching transistors, and current-limiting and switch-off circuits. The regulator output transistor and each output switch are internal current limiting, and an internal heat shutdown circuit is used to limit junction temperature.
Application Information
Reference voltage
The internal series regulator provides a nominal 5 volt output that is used both to generate a reference voltage and as a source of regulation for all internal timing and control circuits. By connecting pins 15 and 16 to the input voltage, the regulator can be bypassed from a fixed 5-volt power supply. In this configuration, the maximum input voltage is 6.0 volts. The reference voltage regulator can be used as a 5 volt power supply for other circuits. It can provide up to 50mA of current on its own, and can easily be extended to higher currents by external PNP.
