OmniVision has announced its first square 2K2K (2048x2048) resolution CMOS image sensor designed for wide-field security cameras (dome, fisheye, and doorbell cameras) and Pass-Through (AR/VR/MR) cameras with 1:1 aspect ratio. OS04E10 is the industry's first image sensor with digital watermarking, a built-in anti-counterfeiting feature that ensures that the original video source is not tampered with. The sensor captures fast-moving video in real time and features a 512p almoon-on low-power mode for excellent Pre-roll video recording.
Security has become the largest market segment for CMOS image sensors after mobile devices and computing devices. According to Imaging for Security 20221, the latest report from Yole Intelligence, this segment is expected to grow from $2.1 billion to $3.6 billion from 2021 to 2027 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9%. According to Yole Group2, Howe Group is also the leading supplier of CMOS image sensors in the security sensor market.
Devang Patel, Director of iot/Emerging Applications Marketing at OmniVision, said: "As the leader in image sensors in the security market, we are excited to launch Howe Group's first square 2K2K image sensor developed specifically for 1:1 aspect ratio security systems, the design of choice for AR/VR/MR Pass-Through cameras and wide-field security cameras. We also implemented the industry's first digital watermarking anti-counterfeiting feature in the OS04E10 sensor. The use of OS04E10 in combination with Howe's OA7600 and OA8000 ASics enables a fully battery-powered camera system with normally on and Pre-roll video recording capabilities."
The OS04E10 image sensor uses a 2.0-micron pixel size and 1/3.11-inch optical format. Howe's disruptive PureCel®Plus technology reduces pixel cross talk and noise, enabling better color reproduction in low-light conditions. Onboard Nyxel near infrared (NIR) technology ensures that images are taken with infrared light sources when ambient light is low or absent, resulting in sharp images and helping camera designers extend battery life. The sensor's double-exposure interleaved HDR mode increases dynamic range. OS04E10 supports MIPI and LVDS interfaces.
