STMicroelectronics' STEVAL-ISA162V1 evaluation board. The new evaluation board implements an isolated flyback (12V / 0.84A) 10W wide range power supply developed for general-purpose applications. The heart of the application is VIPer25HD, an offline high-voltage converter from the STMicroelectronics VIPerPlus family.
The evaluation board includes an on-board VIPer25HD IC with a custom-designed 800V rugged power MOSFET, current-mode PWM logic, and a zero-current detection (ZCD) module for quasi-resonant operation. The power MOSFET also integrates a high-voltage start-up generator, allowing the IC to be directly connected to the input power source without the need for a resistor to reduce the voltage.
The VIPer25HD IC operates in a quasi-resonant mode with a valley switch, which enables low electromagnetic interference (EMI) emissions and safe behavior in the event of a short circuit. The IC has advanced protection features including dual-level overcurrent protection, overvoltage and overload protection, hysteretic thermal protection, soft-start, and safe automatic restart after eliminating any fault conditions.
The company said that the STEVAL-ISA162V1 evaluation board can help reduce BOM costs and time to market when creating solutions such as mobile device power adapters, industrial power supplies, and switched mode power supplies (SMPS) for home appliances.
