Texas Instruments today introduced the new Sitara™ AM62 processor, helping to extend edge artificial intelligence (AI) processing to next-generation applications, driving the further evolution of highly integrated processors. The low-power design of the new processor supports dual-screen displays and small human-machine interface (HMI) applications.

TI will exhibit the new AM62 processor and demonstrate system-level solutions for edge AI and EV charging HMI applications at Embedded World in Nuremberg, Germany, June 21-23, 2022 (booth 215) .

The next generation of HMIs will bring new ways of interacting with machines, such as issuing commands through gesture recognition in noisy factory environments, or controlling machines through wirelessly connected phones or tablets. Adding edge AI capabilities to HMI applications, including machine vision, analytics, and predictive maintenance, helps give HMIs a whole new meaning, not just interfaces that enable human-machine interaction. The AM62 processor enables edge device analysis functions at low power consumption (suspend state power consumption as low as 7mW without special thermal design considerations), giving engineers the flexibility to deploy these functions in size-constrained applications or industrial environments.

Bring intelligence to new applications with cost-effective AI at the edge

The AM62 processor enables low-cost analytics for HMI devices by enabling basic camera-based image processing and edge AI capabilities such as object detection and recognition. The AM62 processor also supports dual-screen Full HD displays and multiple operating systems, including mainline Linux® and Android™ operating systems. Additionally, the AM62 processor provides wired and wireless connectivity interfaces. Reduce system power consumption by up to 50%

The AM62 processor reduces power consumption for industrial applications by up to 50 percent compared to competing devices, enabling applications powered by AA batteries to run continuously for more than 1,000 hours. This is made possible by a simplified power architecture. With only two dedicated power rails, the device features five power modes, a deep sleep mode of less than 5mW for extended battery life and a core voltage of 0.75V for less than 1.5W of operating power. Reducing system power consumption extends battery life and helps engineers meet design requirements for anywhere-deployed handheld or size-constrained devices. Achieving optimum power performance is further simplified by the new TPS65219, a companion PMIC designed specifically to meet the power requirements of AM62 processors.
Simplify development by using hardware and software tools and resources

A variety of tools and resources for the AM62 processor provide flexible options for development, helping to reduce design cost and address complexity. A variety of open source software solutions, including mainline Linux, simplify the application development process and help reduce time to market. A rich hardware ecosystem, including third-party evaluation modules (EVMs), helps designers get started with application design faster.
Packaging and Availability

The AM625 and AM623 processors are now available for order through TI.com in a 13 mm × 13 mm, 425-pin ALW package. TI.com also offers AM62 EVMs and custom tape and reel, with a variety of payment and shipping options.
