Vishay showed the first two devices of a series of ceramic-based high-power UV LEDs with silicone lenses. The VLMU3500-385-060 and VLMU3500-385-120 are designed to provide a reliable, energy-efficient alternative to mercury lamps. They are available in compact 3.5mm x 3.5mm surface mount packages and have a long service life for medical, industrial and printing applications. Compared with typical mercury lamps, the silicone lenses of the VLMU3500-385-060 and VLMU3500-385-120 have extremely long service life. Environmentally friendly UV LEDs do not contain heavy metals and are resistant to impact and frequent on / off switching performance degradation, which improves reliability. Mercury lamps require complex drive circuits and require 2 to 15 minutes to warm up, while the VLMU3500-385-060 and VLMU3500-385-120 allow simple low-voltage circuits and do not require warm-up time. These devices are based on InGaN (Indium Gallium Nitride) technology and have a typical radiated power of 780mW at 500mA and a typical radiated power of 1037mW at 700mA in a wavelength range of 380nm to 390nm. The VLMU3500-385-060 provides a 60-degree launch angle, while the VLMU3500-385-120 provides a 120-degree launch angle. The radiation intensity of the device at 700mA is 730mW / sr and 390mW / sr, respectively. LED specifications make it ideal for UV curing in nail salons, dental and poster printing applications; blood and counterfeit banknote detection; and photocatalytic purification. VLMU3500-385-060 and VLMU3500-385-120 are RoHS compliant, halogen-free and Vishay Green requirements, compatible with reflow soldering processes, and have Class 2 moisture sensitivity in accordance with J-STD-020. The company says samples are available.
